Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage is an ancient therapeutic treatment that has been practiced in India for thousands of years. Part of the Hindu health care practice of Ayurveda, Indian head massage focuses on your head, neck and shoulders and was originally used to improve scalp and hair condition.  This form of massage focuses on the three higher “chakras” – mind, body and spirit and as such hits your energy epicentre.

Indian Head Massage usually begins with working on the the upper back and shoulders. A combination of deep massage techniques and acupressure points, helps to relax and loosen the muscles. Moving upwards, from the back into the shoulders and upper arms helps release tension and stress in the muscles.  This helps to alleviate headaches.  Continuing with the upward movement, the scalp is then massaged using techniques that stimulate, relax and revive the entire head and scalp.  This increases circulation and promotes healthy hair growth.

As the treatment improves circulation it  also helps to remove waste, particularly lactic acid, from muscles therefore relieving tension headaches, eye strain and muscle aches in the neck and shoulders. Neck and shoulder stiffness, which is usually a result of stress, is reduced and a sense of well-being is restored, which promotes restful sleep. Indian Head Massage can help to eliminate Insomnia, reduce the effects of mental tiredness, anxiety, stress and tension in the scalp. Sinusitis and congestion are also greatly reduced as excess fluid is drained away. Clients report that the experience is deeply calming and relaxing, leaving them feeling energised and revitalised and better able to concentrate.  Following a treatment some clients experience tiredness, dizziness, an increased desire to urinate or aching muscles. All of these side effects usually last for no more than a few hours, after which clients generally experience increased energy and alertness.
